ITQI Superior Taste Award

CULINARY AWARD FOR UPPER AUSTRIA AT THE ITQI SUPERIOR TASTE AWARD

The International Taste and Quality Institute (www.itqi.org) in Brussels awards the Superior Taste Award once a year. The jury are top chefs and sommeliers from the most prestigious culinary organizations in Europe. A total of 601 products from 58 countries were tested this year. As the only product in the meat category the Grilly Partyferkel, was awarded with the top rating: three stars. (see valuation result)

The Grilly Kräuterferkel is the result of a project supported by Upper Austria as part of the Lebensmittelcluster OÖ of WKOÖ. Together with the feed producer SOLAN from Bachmanning and the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, it was demonstrated that by feeding herbs to milk piglets the proportion of harmful cholesterol oxide can be reduced by up to 80 per cent in the meat. The Kräuterferkel represent a promising milestone for the nutrition, health, economy and durability of the meat. At the ANUGA 2005 it was also awarded the “Taste 05” and among the best seven product innovations in the meat sector. For more information, please refer to the attached project sheet.
